  There is ample parking and you can launch your own kayak.  However, you must be able to get in and out on your own.

  This is a 3 mile paddle to the Lower Mystic Lake (lots of vegetation and birds) and 3 miles back.  
  Lifejackets are required!

  We will then gather for a picnic lunch on the grass.  Please bring water, snack, lunch, hat, sunscreen and a SMILE.

  Join Larry for a circular hike around Stiles Reservoir.   Meet at his home around 9:45 so we can be on the walk by 10:00.  Length is 5 miles and should take approximately 2 ¼ to 2 ½ hours. Walk will include rural asphalt country roads, dirt roads, abandoned roads, and possible a short path depending on which way we go.     

  Bring your lunch, we can have picnic on his deck overlooking the lake when we get back.   Bring comfortable shoes, water and bug spray and walking sticks if you need them.

• Mary's Spring Ride and Potluck

  Meet at Mary’s house at 10:00 to bike shaded back roads through Billerica, Carlisle and Chelmsford.

  20- mile ride: Bike a lovely shaded 20-mile ride (round trip) along the back roads of Carlisle and Chelmsford.   The rolling hills will take us through some of the Great Brook Farm State Park Forest. There are some hills, neither steep nor long (10 years ago we didn't call them hills). In the bodies of water we will pass, I have seen turtles’ heads shyly peeking up amidst the numerous blooming lily pads – an incredibly beautiful scene.  On the way back we will stop for ice cream (naturally) at Great Brook Farm State Park ice cream stand.  The Holstein cows as well as other animals will be on site.  We may see horses and riders go by on the dirt trails all around there.  Horses ALWAYS have the right of way.  If you see one on the short trail to the ice-cream stand, STOP PEDALING AND PULL OVER.

  Although we will not be riding the dirt trails at Great Brook, I will describe the Great Brook Farm State Park.

  About Great Brook: There are over 20 miles of trails available for walkers, hikers, mountain bikers, and horseback riders. During the winter months, cross-country skiing is available and one trail is lantern lit for a "moon light" experience! The ice cream stand is open through the month of October.

  10-mile ride: We will bike on the shaded back roads of Carlisle and Billerica for about 10 miles.  The hills are minimal.  We will stop at the vernal pools on the Greenough conservation land in Carlise where there are beaver houses, and wood duck nest houses. There are a lot of walking trails through this area. This is also another very lovely ride.  We will stop at Kimball Farms for ice cream on our way back to Mary’s.

  • Back at Mary's we will have a pot-luck meal in the backyard.  I don’t orchestrate the food, so bring what you want.

  TOHG has reserved 7 rooms at the AMC Highland Center Lodge located in the beautiful White Mountains at the Crawford Notch, New Hampshire. (Website Highland Center AMC)

  The Highland Center offers comfortable, friendly accommodations in one of the most accessible locations in the White Mountains. There’s no need to drive around the southern Presidential peaks when you’re staying at the base of Crawford Path, and the hiker shuttle makes it easy to get to other popular destinations.
  

  Following a full buffet breakfast, adventure out for a day in the White Mountains. Return to the lodge for a hearty, home-cooked dinner and settle in for lively conversation or games by the fireplace.
  The Highland Center offers guided day hikes to nearby scenic destinations, instructional talks on outdoor skills or natural history, and in-depth evening programs featuring films and guest speakers presenting on topics from astronomy to winter hiking. (Guests can call ahead for the daily schedule during their stay.)
  

  Highland Center guests also have free use of the  L.L.Bean Gear Room, which offers boots, backpacks, outerwear and more. The on-site retail store offers books, maps, AMC apparel, gear, USFS parking passes, and the friendly staff are always available to assist with weather, trail conditions, and other information.
  

  The Highland Center houses the official AMC Library and Archives, with thousands of documents, maps, photographs, and other items dating back as far as the organization’s founding in 1876.

  HIKING INFORMATION AND COST
  2 experienced Trail Guides are reserved for TOHG for a per person cost of $150 total for 2 days. Please inform the Lodge when you register if you want to join in the Guided Hikes.
  

  Also, if you choose not to stay at the AMC lodge, we will probably be able to accommodate additional people on each hike; but please register on the TOHG website and contact the trip leader to indicate which day or days you will be joining the group.

  You must have experience hiking on trails with roots and rocks. Hiking shoes and hiking poles are highly recommended. AMC has a gear room if you want to borrow extra gear.
  

  Sunscreen, water, and bug spray required.
  

  Below are examples of trails we can hike together. We’ll decide on each day’s hikes based on people’s interest, experience level, and weather conditions.
  

  Easy (no guide needed)
  Ammonoosuc Lake Trail - 1.2 mi loop, 84 ft elevation, along lake shore
  

  Moderate (guide recommended)
  Zealand Hut - 5.4 mi, out and back, 605 elevation gain, flat except for one short stair step at the end to get to a nice water fall and the Zealand hut (optional but nice place for lunch)
  

  Mt Willard Trail - 3.1 mi, out and back, 895 elevation gain, steady climb with great view at the end
  

  Arethusa Falls - 2.8 mi out and back, 784 elevation gain, nice waterfalls and lunch spot at end
  

  There are also many trails from short/easy to long/strenuous nearby for self-guided hikes.

  Join us for our Summer Picnic at Nara park.
  The Park is located on the Bruce Freeman Rail Trail and the picnic will be preceded by a bike ride at 10 am for those interested.

  Aside from hiking and biking on the Rail Trail, Nara park has other walking trails and a lake for swimming and renting boats and canoes. Also if you would like to play some lawn games, please bring your favorite one with you.

  Parking is free.

  There will be a catered BBQ luncheon including ribs, beef brisket, pulled pork, grilled boneless chicken, grilled veggies, baked beans, moroccan couscous, quinoa salad, garden salad, cucumber salad, corn bread, and lemonade/iced tea. Options that are vegan/ gluten free are available (make selections when you register). BYOB (beer and wine only). If you want to bring appetizers or a dessert to share, these would be welcomed!

  We will again be using the large pavilion with about 20 picnic tables sheltered from the elements.

  The cost for lunch is $35.00 per person. This is a subsidized event, the actual cost is $42.

  TOHG has reserved 16 spaces on a Bicycling tour along the St Lawrence Seaway to Thousand Islands in Ontario.

  The Thousand Islands region of the western St. Lawrence River, separating Ontario from western New York, is a rugged and beautiful region rich with Indigenous, Revolutionary War, and maritime history, natural beauty and architectural wonders.  The great river chisels the landscape with its string of islands, from the great Wolfe Island to the tiny ones with a single tree!  Between Kingston and Cornwall, we will see them in all their splendor. This is a corner of the world where nature has had a particularly happy hand, which perfectly lends itself to be discovered on a bicycle, touring the area’s charming waterfront villages or cycling past historic homes, picturesque lighthouses and majestic castles perched atop rocks in the river.
